Do You Need a Travel Nanny? What Families Should Know Before Their Next Trip

A travel nanny may help with children’s packing, airport transitions, meals, routines, naps, activities, bedtime, outings and coverage while parents attend dinners, meetings or events.

The role should be clearly defined before departure.

Travel does not mean a nanny is available 24 hours a day. Families should discuss working hours, downtime, accommodations, transportation, meals, travel expenses and compensation in advance and consistent with applicable employment requirements.

International travel may require additional planning around passports, visas or work authorization, destination laws, insurance and healthcare. The goal is not to remove children from the family vacation; it is to give the family more support while experiencing it together.
